Although I have completed half of Dual of Weddenskeep, the last half will be more challenging. When I found the manuscript a couple years ago, it was missing several latter portions. I seem to be experiencing writer’s block in determining how to proceed.

Sharing this quandary with a friend, I was advised to let Weddenskeep rest for a while and, rather, to make Doggie Devotionals into a better book by adding nine more articles, giving it a devotional a day for a month.

Almost immediately after receiving that advice, I began comparing the relationships between the three cats in our household and their responses to us humans with our relationships and responses to our God. (Cat lovers, rejoice!)

Hence, my last post from England at the end of the summer, 2026, is the first kitty devotional.

Underside Up

Submit yourselves … to God —James 4:7   KJV

                As an adult cat, Bella tolerates the invasion of her home by two eight-week old ragdoll kittens. Oh! How they love rough and tumble play, chasing each other in a game of tag, climbing up furniture and…our human legs!

                Bella sits quietly above them, observing their antics that bring laughter to the humans in the room. Sometimes, Luna and Sandy play too closely to the older cat. Bella may reprimand them with an arched back, an angry hiss, or a bat of her sheathed paw.

                For instance, Luna pats a small ball from paw to paw as Bella passes by, minding her own business. Suddenly, Luna’s paw reaches out to bat Bella’s rump. Instantly, Bella swivels toward the kitten, batting her with a larger, stronger paw. Her stare at the kitten is an angry gaze.

                Immediately, Luna flops to her back, one of the feline postures of submission. She still extends one paw toward Bella, who towers above her, undecided what to do in the moment. Her humans command, “No, Bella, no. Be a good cat.” They can see that she wants to strike Luna again.

                But her moment of indecisiveness passes because she obeys, relaxes, and continues on her way.

                Quite like Bella, we humans are wronged by others for good cause or not. We strike back naturally, or we wish we could. Perhaps, like Bella, we are indecisive as to do.

For those moments, God tells us what to do in James 4:7-8:  “Submit yourselves…to God. Resist the devil…. Draw near to God, and He will draw to you.”

Abba Father, thank You for the examples of submission that Luna and Bella presented right in front of me. When in similar human circumstances, may I be as quick as they to submit to Your Word, living in the here-and-now kingdom of God. For the Savior’s sake, Amen
