It’s Happening–Again?!?
Every morning. . . every evening. . . it’s happening.
In our churches . . . in our schools . . . in our homes . . . it’s happening.
I’ve said it before in this blog; and I’m sure that I will say it again. But, now, again I write it.
CHANGE!
The Lenten theme this year at Resurrection Lutheran Church is “surrender to change.” The reasons–the opportunities–that we have to change increase steadily. Sometimes we choose the change. Sometimes change happens to us without our consent . . . often without warning.
So it was last Friday evening. A group of a half dozen or so gather each late afternoon to play rummikub. Sitting at the end of the table facing the glass door of the room, I saw her coming. One of our older residents was making good time down the hall. She swung the door open and announced: “They’ve changed the name!”
We all exclaimed in unison, “What?!”
“They’ve changed the name! I just saw it on the sign out front! Go see it for yourselves!”
We did.

There in blue script across a white background was the name “Madison,” and in small red letters beneath it “at Parkrose.” Apparently, “Parkview” doesn’t exist any more.
Without any notice of any kind, not only in fact but in name as well, Parkview is gone.
Begun 82 years ago in 1944 as a Christian home for seniors, then becoming merely Parkview Apartments, open to any who could pay the rent, the property began undergoing big changes after different owners took charge in early 2024.
What will be the next change here? In time, we will know.
So, I continue to rely and rest in Joshua’s encouragement, “Be strong and of good courage” (Joshua 1:8) because as Jesus said, “I am with you always.” (Matthew 28:1) His presence is essential, and it is all that really matters in our always changing world.

Thanks for the reply, Nancy. How are you doing? Have taken your trip yet?
Wow! What a surprise! Thanks for the update. It makes me a little sad Jacqueline.
Yes, it is; but life goes on in spite of unexpected, unfortunate changes. You seem to be in a fine place now.
PYL our ETERNAL HOME is waiting! “When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be.” Love, Shirley
So true! Thanks for being a loyal reader and encourager. Love, Linda

Thanks for letting me know, Judy. See you tomorrow evening.
I got your post. Yes, the whiplash changes to Parkview have been astounding.
Thanks for the commiseration, Gail. Your word choice (“whiplash changes…astounding) are so apt. At the moment we have a property manager who seems to favor responding favorably to the residents here. Just the act of listening can be a comfort.
