MEANT FOR YOU

Tuesday afternoon, June second, Plover, Wisconsin   After packing two medium-sized, check-in suitcases, I labor to pack a rather small duffel bag, my carry-on allowance.

Three o’clock. Tammy, who will drive me to the airport, waits for me while visiting with Heidi.

I wrestle to pack an accessory case, holding jewelry, toiletries, and medications; a zippered bag with sealed bottles of liquids; a change of clothes; and my laptop into the blue duffel. But the zipper doesn’t close.

Finally, I join the visiting women. “Heidi, my two blue bags are stuffed full. I’ve been trying to fit everything I have left into this duffle, but I can’t get it zippered. Do you have something that might hold it all?”

“I do. Give me a minute to get it,” she responds as she lowers her recliner and hoists herself from it. She steps to the nearby coat closet and opens the door. There on the shelf above the coats is a line of suitcases of varying sizes. She pulls one down. “There’s one, but it may not be big enough. Let me look out here,” and she turns to the garage.

I hang back, eying the bag she left behind. “No,” I agree. “This one won’t be big enough.”

“Here. I think this one will work,” she replies as she reaches up to an unopened, rectangular box. “You get it down, and you can have it.”

I oblige. In short order, the box is sliced open and I pull out the case. “Yes, this will do,” I announce as I quickly fill it with the rest of my belongings.

Before I leave the apartment, we sit and talk for a few minutes, recalling highlights of my visit. Then, once more, Heidi exclaims, “I can’t get over it! I bought that case more than a year ago and never took it out of its box! I guess it was meant for you!”

Indeed! Once again provident God proves Psalm 146:6: You watch over…and support…widows. (KJV)

Three times Jesus questioned his audience on a hillside: “Why do you worry?” Then He answers with an admonition:  Forsake your worries! …your heavenly Father already knows the things your body requires. (Passion)

Truly, His way works! The fulfillment of His promises is meant for you!
