Reading through Romans chapter 8 on Saturday morning, I was struck by verses 14 through 16, rendered in the Passion Translation.

The mature children of God are those who are moved by the impulses of the Holy Spirit. (Is that you?)

You did not receive the spirit of religious duty, leading you back into the fear of never being good enough. (Do you fear this?)

But you have received the “Spirit of full acceptance,” enfolding you into the family of God. And you will never feel orphaned, for as He rises up within us, our spirits joining Him in saying the words of tender affection, “Beloved Father!”

For the Holy Spirit makes God’s fatherhood real to us as He whispers into our innermost being, “You are God’s beloved child!” (To what extent are you aware of this holy whisper, “You are His beloved child?”)

After a few moments of meditation on those thoughts, I asked the question, “Why? Why would God do all that?”

Immediately, the answer shot through my mind, “It is not good for man to be alone.” (Genesis 2:18) He said that because He knew loneliness.

The mighty Creator Sovereign, who made it all, wanted the companionship of a special creation. So, He formed one with clay in His own likeness. Then, unlike all the rest of His creation which came into existence with His spoken words, “Let there be. . . ,” HE BREATHED LIFE INTO THE NOSTRILS OF HUMANITY.

This final, ultimate, hand-made creation in His image possesses intellect, speech, emotions, soul, and will.

God understood the power of will. Choosing to disobey would be the misuse of that gift, He knew.

So, He immediately devised the solution by solely involving Himself, all three aspects of Himself, in the redemption, justification, and the total salvation of each individual human being.

And as each of us involves ourselves in His Word and Way, He is no longer lonely—and neither are we.
